Course Overview

Course Background:

The National Certificate in Strength & Conditioning (NCSC) course has been the industry standard qualification in Ireland for Strength & Conditioning coaches since 2012. To date, over 4, 500 coaches have been certified worldwide through in-person courses in more than 10 countries. The NCSC course is comprised of Phase 1 & 2 courses followed by the NCSC exam. Each phase is three days in duration.

The course is designed to produce coaching professionals capable of working in strength and conditioning and fitness related fields. It is specifically aimed at fitness professionals, physiotherapists and sports coaches who want to enhance their clients or athletes performance levels.

The course duration ranges from 3-6 months with student intakes occurring at different stages throughout the year. To become NCSC qualified, participants must begin with the Phase 1 Course, progress onto the Phase 2 Course before taking their NCSC exam to become a qualified Strength & Conditioning coach. The exam can be taken online upon completion of Phase 1 & 2 courses.

Inside The NCSC Course

Lecture & Practical Sessions:

The NCSC Course provides expert instruction on the systems and methodologies for Strength & Conditioning through six days of classroom lectures, small-group coaching sessions, and coach-led workouts. The NCSC Course environment and all aspects of the course are supportive of all levels of participants, from the absolute beginner to the more experienced.

Lecture Sessions:

Phase 1 course lecture sessions include:

  1. EPI system of training & methodology
  2. Acceleration speed
  3. Olympic lifting for sports performance
  4. Program design
  5. Linear periodization

Phase 2 course lecture sessions include:

  1. Strength & power development
  2. Advanced program design
  3. Energy system development (ESD)
  4. Conjugate periodization
  5. Athlete case study

Practical Sessions:

Phase 1 course practical sessions include:

  1. Fitness testing and profiling
  2. Movement screening and correctives
  3. Acceleration speed
  4. Coaching the Clean & Jerk
  5. Plyometrics

Phase 2 course practical sessions include:

  1. Coaching the Snatch
  2. Upper body complex training
  3. Max velocity speed
  4. Lower body complex training
  5. ESD fitness testing
  6. Anaerobic glycolysis ESD
